Every February 4 is observed as World Cancer Day. This initiative was taken and led by the Union for International Cancer Control, a Geneva-based NGO that unites and supports the cancer community across the world. This day aims to spread awareness and reduce the consequence of this life-threatening disease.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally.
This year the theme for World Cancer Day is “Close the Care Gap/Realising the problem”.
This theme promotes people's action and cooperation towards a cancer patient. Every step regarding cancer care can be impactful in fighting against cancer.
We need to understand and find the lacking in cancer care. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, we need to care about him. Our support and effort can help a cancer patient greatly to fight against cancer mentally and physically. Together we can hope for a better world without cancer.
However, the bitter truth is still we are lagging in cancer care due to numerous barriers, for example -
• Income
• Lack of proper education
• Location
• Discrimination based on age, gender, ethnicity
• Social support
• Insurance concern
• Communication problems with health care personnel
