Is brain tumor life threatening?

Tumor is an abnormal cell growth that forms lumps. In the context of the brain, it refers to a specific type of lesion. Brain tumors are dangerous because they occupy space inside the brain and put pressure on surrounding parts.

They may also disrupt the flow of fluid around the brain and cause problems. In some cases, brain tumors can spread to distant parts of the brain or the spine.

It may surprise you to know that there are almost 120 types of brain tumors. Some brain tumors may be cancerous by nature or become cancerous over time. While some brain tumors are noncancerous, known as benign brain tumors, others are cancerous, known as malignant brain tumors.

The growth of benign brain tumors is usually slow, but they can also be dangerous. They may cause severe dysfunction in the body and can be life-threatening. Malignant brain tumors grow rapidly and make changes to the vital structure of the brain, leading to brain cancer, which can be life-threatening.

Patients with brain tumors go through a lot of suffering. Motor dysfunction, cognitive deterioration, emotional problems, seizures, headache, and dysphagia are common dysfunctions for a brain tumor patient.

So, how do you know if you are suffering from brain tumors?

The symptoms of brain tumors vary depending on their location, size, type, and speed of growth. If you experience any of the following, make sure to book a doctor's appointment as soon as possible:

  • Headaches
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty thinking, speaking, or finding words
  • Personality or behavior changes
  • Weakness, numbness, or paralysis in one part or one side of the body
  • Loss of balance, dizziness, or unsteadiness
  • Loss of hearing
  • Vision changes
  • Confusion and disorientation
  • Memory loss
